Our Story

The Founders

In 2024, GreaterGood was founded when Desiree and Hiran Jayakody gathered a group of close friends, family, and other parents to discuss their concerns about the future of their adult children with Autism. The biggest challenge they were facing was the lack of facilities for young adults with Autism and similar IDD's in Sri Lanka. Desiree's son, Timothy, was born in Holland, which gave them the option to move to their motherland and find a suitable home for him. However, Desiree chose to stay in Sri Lanka, the motherland of her husband Hiran, and started planning her dream project - a community for young adults with autism and similar IDD's. She aimed to create a meaningful and successful life not only for her son but also for other young adults with Autism and similar IDD's in Sri Lanka. With a dedicated group of people, GreaterGood was born. The name was chosen because of its meaning and the reason behind the Community. "Greater Good" refers to benefits beyond an individual, often for society or the world. If someone does something "for the Greater Good," they are doing it to benefit others or the world.
